SUSTAINABILITY AT SLY BERLIN

For us, sustainability isn't a one-off initiative. It's built into how we run the hotel every day: in the kitchen, in housekeeping, at reception and in how we source. And we don't see it in purely environmental terms - social and economic considerations are part of it too.

Much of this is already well established, while other things are only just getting started. Step by step, we're expanding what we do, together with our team, our guests and our partners here in Berlin.

We're always glad when guests get involved: if you have an idea or a suggestion, just share it with our reception team.

ENERGY &
TECHNOLOGY

  • All of our lighting is LED.

  • A keycard system only powers the room while the guest is in it.

  • Heat recovery in the kitchen puts waste heat to use right where it's created.

  • We've deliberately left fridges out of the rooms - cold drinks are available at the bar
  • Our rooms come with showers only; the Loft is the one exception, with a bathtub. This cuts water consumption and the energy that goes with it.

  • At present, 49% of our electricity comes from renewable sources. Raising that share and bringing our overall consumption down further is our next goal.

LOCAL SOURCING &
SHORT SUPPLY CHAINS

  • When we choose our suppliers, local origin and short transport distances count just as much as quality and reliability. We keep our menu deliberately consistent, adding seasonal dishes as they come around - during white asparagus season, for example.
  • When it comes to our interiors, we build to last rather than to replace: solid oak floors, natural stone and durable materials instead of short-lived trends.

SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY

  • As part of visitBerlin's Pink Pillow Collection, we take a clear stand for diversity, openness and equality. We support local LGBTQIA+ initiatives, including around Berlin Pride.
  • Through the "Serviert mit Sinn" campaign, we donate to Berliner Tafel, the city's food bank. Over the summer holidays we also invite children to join us for free cooking sessions. And here at the hotel, we currently have ten young people in training.
